#TVT Thursday

Good morning dreamers…Thursday is here! Yes…one more day left and you have two days to do whatever your little heart desires. As usual, Thursdays are mostly about theory and how we can better ourselves in baby steps (hey, if I could snap my fingers and make me a better person I would but unfortunately I can’t). Today’s topic…#stress.

Yesterday, I attended a #stressrelief workshop and let me tell you, it did absolutely nothing but make me more stressed out. I was thinking it was going to be about essential oils, yoga, relaxing techniques, blah blah blah. Instead, it was about what can happen to you if you’re stressed (tons of awful things which I won’t even dare to mention here because we’re positive thinkers). Hello….if I’m attending a stress relief workshop, I’m most likely stressed. Hence, don’t stress me out more (am I right?). Bottom line, you do what makes you happy and less stressed.

So, in the spirit of positive stress relief (and I mean actual stress relief not creating more stress), I want to share a few tools that I use to calm down the cortisol. Step 1, Breathe. Yes, you probably hear it all the time, but it’s actually for a reason. Breathing will stop whatever you’re currently thinking about and change the brain waves. One breath is a start, but I honestly think doing a 3-5 is where it’s at. This gets oxygen and blood flow increasing, and will let you clear your mind. I like to sit up straight, close my eyes, smell some essential oils (one of my favorite tricks), and breathe deeply. Just try it. I’m not saying it’s going to cure all your stress, but you should feel a little more relaxed after doing so.

Another favorite that I just mentioned are essential oils. They really can work wonders. At work, I currently have 2 different stress relief potions, Frankincense (you must get this), Lemongrass and of course, Lavender. All of these oils are uplifting, which will help to increase your mood and clear your mind. Spearmint and Eucalyptus are also great ones to have for stress (I have a candle at home from Bath and Body works that I burn nightly) and help you wind down. Of course, I don’t want to fall asleep at work so I have to try to find a balance. I have a mini diffuser at my desk (I asked my neighbors if they cared or not and they didn’t…actually some thanked me for getting it), and I usually put some oil in once a day and burn it for an hour or so. Thank me later.

Essential Oils

Lastly, sounds extremely silly, but sleep. It’s your best friend. Not only will you actually feel awake when your alarm goes off, but you’ll be less stressed. Sleep is the one thing your body needs to recuperate throughout the day. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing. Your body is replenishing it’s natural elements that it needs to function properly. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’re stressed because you didn’t sleep, you’re grumpy, you don’t feel well, you’re more likely to get sick or injured, and the cycle starts all over again. So…bottom line…get at least 7 hours of sleep (I shoot for 8-9). Sleep is the start of it all! If you have trouble going to sleep, try some Meletonin or Advil PM. The next day, you’re on Cloud 9.

#TVT Thursday

Good morning dreamers! Almost to Friday if you know what I mean (keeping that positive momentum up–trust me it helps). I feel like everyday is one step closer to the weekend, which is of course what we all want, but if you take it day by day and look at Friday as the end result, it does go by a little quicker than thinking “it’s only Thursday” (make sense?).

Per usual, Thursday’s are scheduled more for behind the scenes type of information than specific travel (yes, I’ll throw a couple awesome pics in because, after all, it’s still #tbt). One of my favorite tricks for positive thinking (slightly highlighted above), is taking each day as it is (thanks #mom you’re the best). So, take Tuesday for example. You go to work (or not), do your regular routine, get through the day, do something for you (I choose the gym), and boom, day’s done. One step closer to Friday and the weekend. Before you know it, it’s now Wednesday. Do the same routine, and boom, you’re done. Another notch closer to #freedom. I know it sounds a little silly and almost too easy to be true, but honestly, it is great.

Think about it. I used to wake up on #Monday morning and think “OMG, I have 5 days until I can relax”. That honestly makes you dread every single day until it’s Friday afternoon. Right? So, now, Monday is just a Monday (and one step closer to my freedom), rather than putting a specific time limit on it. Another trick that I heard from a #colleague is that you can take the week like your meals throughout the day (a little far fetched I know, but it’s just another way of looking at it). Monday = breakfast, Tuesday = morning snack, Wednesday = Lunch (my fave), Thursday = afternoon snack, and Friday = Dinner (and errrr maybe some champagne because it is Friday). You get it. Taking things day by day will not only make you happier, but also increase your productivity. You can check things off daily, know that you’re finishing all your items, and have some time for yourself.

So I mentioned doing something for yourself everyday. Do you guys do that? I’ve found that it really helps. It’s the one time of a day (30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, whatever your preference) that you get to be with yourself, be mindful, relax and just take everything in. For me, that’s exercising. I try to go to the gym 5 times a week (Friday and Sunday are my days off…because I earned them and I LOVE brunch). That hour that I get to spend sweating (which I really really hate I don’t know why), allows me to focus just on myself and no outside influences. Maybe for you it’s reading (another fave of mine), hiking, cooking, shopping, playing games, whatever it is that allows you to just focus on you and make yourself happy.

#TVT Thursday

Good morning dreamers–we’re in the final days of the week! Went by faster than I thought. When I look back at what I’ve done this week, I was pretty darn successful (go me!). I perused destinations that I hadn’t ever heard of (win), found some awesome flight deals on #AlaskaAir (my bank account thanks me), and started planning for my #Hawaii trip in #summer (can’t wait). That’s a pretty solid #tvt week for me, if I do say so myself.

So like I said last week, every #Thursday I want to focus more on the concept of #thevacationtheory more than a destination. Everyday, this concept evolves and grows in my mind, which I love. Again, it’s more than just a “vacation blog” it’s modifying your current #mindset to get the #lifestyle you want and deserve. Sometimes you have to be creative on how you will get there (we’re not all# billionaires that have private jets and sushi chefs…yet!), but that’s ok. You will get the life that you want and deserve through positive thinking, energy, and mindfulness (a little #yoga never hurt anyone).

Because #travel, #adventure, #luxury and #relaxing are a few of my #passions (sorry I’m not sorry, I do love resorts and beautiful places), that’s why I decided that my “way out” or #positive thinking was to be revolved around #vacations. For some of you, it might be fitness, food, beauty, fashion, real estate, whatever it is that gets you excited about living. I know you all have something different, but follow that #motivation because it will take you far.

I try to take as many “short” breaks as I can throughout the day to keep my energy, motivation, and mindset up. And by up, I mean positive. It can be hard and draining to work all day (especially if you don’t LOVE your job). This is YOUR life, and you’re in control (er…well maybe your boss is) of it. Once you accomplish something, whether that be clearing your inbox, finishing a project (or just a section of a project), dealing with a customer, etc. give yourself a reward. Rewards go a long way. Remember when you were a kid and got rewards for doing silly things like brushing your teeth, doing your homework or eating all of your dinner? Well hey, those are all things we were “supposed” to do. Just like work. So again, if we’re supposed to work, you should be rewarded.

Try it. See how it feels. Do something for yourself (you deserve it–trust me).

Travel Tuesday

Good morning dreamers! 1 day down and 4 more to go–on our way to a great week. Tuesday is definitely an underrated day in my book…I mean, Monday is done (TG!), Wednesday (#humpday) is tomorrow, which means we’re half way through the week, and then it’s all downhill from there.So, #Tuesdays aren’t that bad. Also, it’s travel Tuesday…so who really doesn’t love that? And my favorite reason? Plane tickets are cheaper on Tuesday’s…yup, you better believe it! No rhyme or reason, but trust me, check it out. On fare calculator’s you’ll see that flying on a Tuesday or Wednesday will save you some serious dough. Even better, book it on a Tuesday to fly on a Tuesday…wow! #Savings

Today, focus on what makes you happy (more into theory on Thursday’s). If #traveling is your jam (like me), do more of it–easier said than done I agree, but it’s a start. If #fitness is your thing, do more of it (hello outdoor jogs!). If #cooking is your fave, do more of it. You get the picture. I may not be the world’s most experienced traveler or adventurer, but you have to start somewhere! My #love for traveling has been passed down from my #grandparents, to my #parents, to me. My grandparents in 60+ years of marriage, went to over 55 #countries (they went to London 30 times–30!!! I still haven’t been once!). When I was just a nugget, I had been to Hawaii 4 times before I was 5 (lucky I know!). Regardless, travel is in my blood, which is how I got to where I am now, or where I want to be now (whichever is more PC).

So this is actually where I want to be….the #Caribbean. I mean honestly, who wouldn’t want to be there? Part of the #passion for whatever you love most comes through #research, #learning, and #planning (well, it does for me). I absolutely LOVE (and I mean love) #googling places that I’ve never been, finding new places that I want to go, and planning the most efficient, budget friendly, and amazing vacation that I hope to do someday. And that’s what #TravelTuesday is all about…you!

What Time Change?

Good morning dreamers! Errrr maybe not so much of a good morning, but let’s change that. Yes, I woke up to my alarm unwillingly and now I’m all over the place. Losing an hour is honestly not fun–I thought I set myself up for some good rest by going to bed around 7:30pm (yes…I know that’s extremely early) so that I could be prepared for today…but I was wrong. What did get me going (besides the 3 cups of coffee) was to come back and and write a morning post. I get this internal #energy about #sharing, #writing and #inspiring, especially if I can make a difference in the #morning.

So benefit number one about the time change? I get to see the #sunrise from my office. Not gonna lie, that’s pretty cool considering I’m usually driving during sunrise so now I can officially enjoy it. Number two? I can actually get myself to stay up past 9 pm (hopefully) and get more done in the day! And lastly number three, more time for after work walks on the #beach. #worthit

After all, who doesn’t #love doing #outdoor activities after work without it being dark? Granted it’s still technically #winter, but maybe instead of doing that #yoga class inside, I’ll go and do it at the #beach or nearest park. Daylight savings does inspire me to get out and go outside more. Living in #southern #California, I am blessed with pretty great weather year round, but I do still LOVE my #movie days (who doesn’t love to be #cuddled up on the #couch with your favorite blanket?). Now, I’m a little more #motivated to be outside, enjoy the light, nature, and everything else that comes along with it.

And you should too! This week, try something different. Take one of your regular #routines and change it up. Whether it be eating lunch outside instead of in the office, doing #yoga at your nearest beach or #park instead of inside, or maybe it’s just adding a little late #afternoon walk into your #schedule. Enjoy that fresh air and get some extra Vitamin D (that is if it’s not snowing/raining/anything else that may prohibit you from doing so).

All in all, we all may be #tired today (I know I am), but thinking about all the #benefits that I get to start enjoying again, make it worth it. What do you think? How are you handling the change?

#TVT Thursday

Good morning dreamers! You made it–the week is almost done! I’ve been thinking a lot about how to explain “#thevacationtheory” because like most people, I can explain it perfectly in my head, but putting it into words is a bit tricky. For me, to get through the day (or make it better–however you want to look at it), I thoroughly enjoy taking mini breaks and planning dream #vacations that I can hopefully swing on a semi-budget.

So, #thevacationtheory for me, could be the “fitness” theory for others. Or even the “beauty” theory. It’s more of whatever you enjoy day dreaming about that makes your day that much better. Maybe you’re looking at redecorating, additional schooling, or simply just being the best you. Whatever it is, add that into your daily routine.

Have you heard of the Pomodoro Technique (yes…like the tomato)? Well, this is what inspired me to do this in a subconscious way if you may. This is a time management tool that has brought great attention to time management. Basically, you work for 25 minutes and then get a “pomodoro”, or short break (i.e. 5 min). Why? Well, breaks actually improve your mental stamina and agility. Who really wants to sit and work 8 hours straight without one damn break? No one…well at least I don’t. So that’s great news for us folks who love to take a mini break, space out, dream, or do whatever it is you do to get refocused.

Today, I dare you to integrate the Pomodoro Technique with #thevacationtheory and see how you feel. I’m not saying it’s life changing or anything like that, but it gives you something to look forward to during the day and become a better you. Let me know what you think!
